Chris Dawson was born in England and grew up in New Zealand.  He started playing music as a teenager and played bass guitar in several rock bands in Auckland, playing live gigs, recording singles and albums and  appearing on National television. He toured extensively around the North and South Islands.  

He moved to Australia in his twenties and played in several bands in Sydney before moving to Newcastle and taking up the double bass, studying at  the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music.  

Chris plays many styles but mostly jazz. He is a busy and sought-after double bassist and has appeared regularly aound Newcastle and the Hunter Valley with bands such as Half Nelson, Flying High,  Le Toot Ensemble, Swing Company and the Paul David Trio. 

Chris has recently moved to the UK and is living near Leeds to be closer to his family and to experience new adventures and is quickly becoming part of the Leeds jazz scene.

The last few years has seen Chris performing in Beijing, New York, England and Scotland as well as around Australia.
